The "good ones" will leave too if they find that the MMO they thought they were buying ends up being a solo game populated with npcs with little more to offer than snide comments. You can also be pretty sure they won't bother putting out for GW2 if their introduction to the franchise was a listless, irritating experience.

Without new players, all we'll be left with is a bunch of embittered old vets QQing about the good old days and bleating about how game updates have ruined/overbuffed their skills/builds. Genuinely new players who have purchased the game also provide ANet with a revenue stream to enable GW2 to crawl closer to release.

Occasionally I'll pop over to a low lvl area and help out a new character. I'll even give them some of my surplus equipment if they seem pleasant. I'm not saying thet makes me a standout nice guy, but it takes very little of my game time and in a small way helps to sustain the community.

I may have been playing for nearly 5 years, but at one time I was a clueless "newbie/noob" as well

I am loving the new players I meet and I often help out in low-level areas when i get bored doing anything I need to do. Puging with people who have never heard of PvX is truly refreshing, Yes sometimes it gets frustrating, but not because they have bad builds (I normally bring my 3 heros as to negate whatever bad builds people are running) it's the little things like agro control they havent got the hang of yet, it's so easy to make these players happy with just a little gentle guidance, patients and generosity. and some of them, within a few days can actually turn into great little players (even if they are a little nubby at times.)

I've spent the past few days doing nothing but helping people who ask for it. In the old days I used to help people with Villainy every day. My Derv would run them to TOA and my Necro would mow down Galrath's evil hordes. ^_^

That paragraph speaks volumes really about any online gaming. Why do 'we' need to tell people not to be arrogant prats to newcomers?

I've never been mean to new players and I see no reason to be. It's sad that people have to be told to be nice, isn't that part of their nature anyway?!

P.s, I want to be a Jedi master. I like training apprentices. Any newcomers wana be a friend?

That is a great story. When I started I ran across all sorts of people who were insanely helpful. I ran through most of prophecies with a group of what started as a PUG.

I think GW2 has something to do with it. GW2 is getting more and more attention in non -GWforums. So i think those people are interested and check GW1 out!

I "helped" someone that "didn't" know how to do a mission. (The Wall mission.) As soon as I joined his team and added 2 heroes, he started the mission. His first time through, he was running and getting the armor pieces for the bonus. So much for not knowing how to do the mission.
I've noticed this too, i've helped one or two people with basic game mechanics, early missions and quick pvp advice only to hear them asking questions about high-end gvg, getting multiple 25 streaks in RA and asking about qknocking and how to set their interface two days later.

In particular I like introducing people to pvp and teaching them all the little things necessary to be competitive even though I haven't been part of the serious pvp scene for a while.

I'm surprised more people don't do this, they're usually really grateful and you end up with a new person to replace the guy on your friendslist that last logged on half a year ago.

Actually, see a lot of people over many various forums who generally hate GW1. But they are looking forward to GW2. My friends love WoW with a passion, and they didn't really like GW1 besides the PvP. But, they really can't wait till GW2.

I thoroughly enjoy new players. I'll zone into Ascalon, answer some questions, give some advice and just chat it up. I'll even help with missions (I only heal and they take the henchies not my lvl 20 heroes) but I try to let them do the work. I try never to criticize but it can get frustrating.

I do think that some newbs come in and they see others with max/elite armors, weps, minis, titles, etc...and they want to have it...NOW. I've recruited many players into our guild with the intent of teaching...not hand holding. It does become frustrating when the first thing they want is to get to ToA and start farming or wanting to be run everywhere...especially on their first ever toon.

Still, courtesy goes a long way and even though MMOs require a thick skin, it'd be nice for all to remember...we were once like them.

Not if they leave their MMO baggage at the door or this is their first MMO game.

Many people who don't like GW1 dislike it because they are too used to traditional MMOs and are expecting the same features as those. Instancing, H/H, etc aren't annoying to someone if they don't how it could be different.

The more, the merrier

Although, a lot of the time when I help newbies, they add me and expect me to babysit them everytime I log on. I really don't mind helping, but to be fair, how much will they learn with me or someone else doing all the missions/quests for them
